Recently, I read something that really impacted the way I see my social life. It said that in today’s society, we plan so much ahead that we start to dread our commitments, and that life is more fun if you make the effort to be more spontaneous. This hugely resonated with me, and as a result I love an impromptu night at dinner or the pub with my friends.
New spontaneous me in mind, I need my make-up to have lasted all day to still feel special by night time, and to be easily amended from laptop to bar. Here are a few of the tips I keep in mind when getting ready in the morning so that I’m always ready to say yes to a last minute invite…
This may sound simple, but in my opinion one of the most crucial elements to making my make-up last is applying a hearty dose of it. So many people I speak to that struggle with this are using a small amount of product when they do their make-up. When I advise them to add an extra pump or a fuller layer, the problem of disappearing make-up is obsolete. Find a consistency that works for you – for example a light coverage or a full coverage – and use a lot of it. This is a more reliable tactic than, for example, using less of a full coverage product to achieve a sheer finish.
For me, another important step in helping maintain my make-up is using setting powder. I love a dewy, fresh skin finish, I can still lock my make-up in place without losing any luminosity. Powders are especially great at helping to absorb the excess oils that can send your make-up sliding into the oblivion. Take Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder in problem areas – I love this!
Whether taking your make-up from day to night or simply making your make-up last, as my friend Declan would say, failing to prepare is preparing to fail. You want your skin to be hydrated, otherwise it will drink as much moisture as it can from your make-up. If you layer something like our Confidence in a Gel Lotion into your regime before your make-up, you’re creating an optimal skin canvas for the rest of your make-up to sit evenly and last powerfully.
And as for the last minute touch ups? For me, it’s all about an extra layer of mascara and a bright lip. Taking Superhero Mascara through a day-old make-up will instantly revive your look. Though it gives a really full lash look, it doesn’t clump, so you can layer and layer and it will build really well. Finally, something bold like IT Girl Red on the lips will brighten a tired complexion, make you look really dolled up, and do all of the talking if you can’t be bothered to revive anything else.
See you at dinner, just don’t ask me in advance…
